Nidar is currently working on introducing a nutritional declaration, giving details information as to the content, on each individual product. Until this is implemented, we here provide more general information on the nutritional content of Nidar’s products.
Chocolate
100 grams of chocolate usually contains between 450 and 500 calories. Chocolate normally contains around 40 per cent carbohydrates and 30-32 per cent fat. Dark chocolate has approximately the same calorific level as milk chocolate, but contains less sugar. Dark chocolate has a favourable fat composition with a high content of olinic acid. Dark chocolate also has a high level of antioxidants (tannins and polyhydroxyphenols). In addition, dark chocolate has a high content of the amino acid tryptophan which is the building stone of phenylethylamine which is claimed to have a good effect on one’s mood. This is the substance that the body itself produces when in love.
Marzipan
Marzipan both bare and with a chocolate cover, is in the range 470 - 520 calories per 100 grams, dependant on how much chocolate there is on the marzipan. Marzipan without chocolate has the lowest calorific content.
Sugar confectionary
Sugar confectionary contains in general about 400 calories per 100 grams. This varies depending on how much water the product contains. Laban is approximately 20 per cent water and therefore contains around 330 calories per 100 grams. The same applies to Nidar’s Lakrisbåter. Doc’, however, is solid candies that do not contain water. The calorific content of Doc is therefore around 400 calories per 100 gram. The caramel, Smørbukk, without chocolate contains around 450 calories per 100 gram. Smørbukk contains both carbohydrates and fat, therefore the calorific content is higher for Smørbukk, than for sugar confectionary.
Additives
Nidar has a very restrictive attitude to additives, and only uses additives that are thoroughly tested. For example, Nidar does not use azo colouring agents which are found in a number of foreign sweets.
Wherever possible, Nidar uses natural additives. An example of this is curcumin E100 yellow colouring, which is extracted from turmeric, a spice. Further Nidar does not add vitamins beyond what is found naturally in the ingredients we use.
