Naturally, many people are concerned about health and nutrition. We have tried to bring together some information on these topics which are of interest to our consumers.
Information to Allergy Sufferers
Nidar’s products may contain raw materials which may bring on allergic reactions. We have, therefore, issued an Allergy Chart with information regarding allergenic ingredients as well as possible traces of allergens which may be present in our product. Here you may find more elaborate information as to allergenic substances in Nidar’s products.
Milk Allergy
Almost all chocolates contain milk. Products that do not have milk as an ingredient, may still contain traces of milk. This applies particularly to dark chocolates, including Bocca, which is produced on the same production line as milk chocolate, which contains milk. Nidar marks all products in which milk protein (casein) has been detected, with the text ‘May contain traces of milk’.
Nut and Almond Allergy
You will find information on whether a product contains nuts or almonds from the product declaration (ingredients list) on the wrapping. Traces of nuts or almonds may, however, also be detected in some of Nidar’s other products. In principle, all products made at the same factory/production line as products containing nuts, may contain traces of nuts. These products are therefore marked with ‘May contain traces of nuts and almonds’.
Gluten Allergy
People with coeliac (celiac) disease should not eat Crispo, Max, New Energy, Crazy Crisp and Chocolate Almond Brittle Crisp in Sfinx. These contain biscuit or crisp based on wheat. Riskake also contains traces of gluten.
Even though our other products do not contain wheat, we cannot guarantee that they are completely free of gluten. Traces may occur in these as well.
Marzipan
All our marzipan products contain glucose syrup derived from wheat. According to the EU legislation, it is not necessary to mark products due to the presence of this glucose syrup, as it is considered to be very unlikely that there are proteins left which can cause an allergic reaction.
Liquorice
There is no wheat in our liquorice products. We use gum arabic and gelatine as thickening agent in soft liquorice products.
Nidar has been requested by the Norwegian Celiac interest group “Cøliakiforeningen”, not to overdo our marking of products as to the content of gluten. However, if you do react to very tiny amounts, several of our products may cause reactions (see also the Allergy Chart).
Gelatine
Gelatine is of animal origin and the gelatine Nidar uses in sugar confectionary is derived from pigs.
